Screen recording only saved the last 1 minute of a facetime session when recording with the mic turned on.

I thought it was strange that the Screen Recording function on my iPhone only saved the final minute of a recent facetime session. It was the first time I tried doing this with the mic turned on. I test recorded with the default mic in the off position to see if it was a space capacity issue, and it saved the entire session (about 3.5 minutes). I made a repeated attempt with the mic turned on, and it essentially confirmed the problem of screen recording facetime with audio. My iPhone again only saved the last minute of the session with the mic is turned on. Has anyone encountered this issue? Is there a time limit restriction to screen recording while using facetime? Is there a fix?

Hi keithapham,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you would like to record a FaceTime video session. There are legal restrictions to recording videochats, regardless of the software used. You can, however, capture a Live Photo in FaceTime.

Take a Live Photo in FaceTime on iPhone - iPhone User Guide

"When you’re on a video call in the FaceTime app, you can take a FaceTime Live Photo to capture a moment of your conversation (not available in all countries or regions). The camera captures what happens just before and after you take the photo, including the audio, so you can see and hear it later just the way it happened.

To take a FaceTime Live Photo, first make sure FaceTime Live Photos is turned on in Settings > FaceTime, then do one of the following:

  • On a call with one other person: Tap .
  • On a Group FaceTime call: Tap the tile of the person you want to photograph, tap , then tap .

You both receive a notification that the photo was taken, and the Live Photo is saved in your Photos app."

Take care.
