Facetime Control Center Mic Mode and Video Effects not appearing during call

During a Facetime call, when swiping the control center down, the Video Effects and Mic Mode are not present. Tried hard reset.

Note: other apps that use the Camera (ex. Instagram) will show these controls when the same is performed.

iPhone 12 running current 16.0.3.

Hey there askinforafriend,

This is strange behavior as we agree, both Video Effects and Mic Mode should be present in Control Center when using FaceTime, especially since you see those options in other apps that use it. As we see you have the latest iOS 16.0.3 release, we can rule out being outdated. Let's rule out some other possible causes:

  1. Is only FaceTime having this issue, or have you noticed other apps that should have it present not showing those two options in Control Center?
  2. Just to make sure we rule out being outdated completely, we also recommend making sure that all apps are up to date: How to manually update apps on your Apple device
  3. Does this occur while you have anything connected to your iPhone, or even paired with Bluetooth?
  4. When did this first start with FaceTime?

Cheers.

Ana from Apple Support was able to help in this case. Issue was FaceTime app was not installed on device, so #2 fits in this case. Since FaceTime calls could be made through contacts app, it wasn’t clear you needed the FaceTime app to have the complete FaceTime experience (mic mode and video effects). This may have not always been the case but since ios16, appears so.
