How do I stop my business chat from appearing on another iPhone?

Previous answer does not take into account that I can keep regular messages separate on my iOS devices and my wife’s devices even though all of our devices are under my Apple ID. So business chat should also be separated the same way. There is no reason that these chats can’t be kept separate by the same process used to keep regular messages from cross populating our devices. I do not wish to use the family share function but will if there is no alternative to keeping business chats only to the device it was originated on.

I believe that business chats are funneled through your service provider to your Apple ID. So, if you are sharing an Apple ID, there wouldn't be a way to separate devices. That's unlike text messages which use the phone number to communicate. You could check with your messaging service provider to see if you have other options, or create an Apple ID for your business account.

Apple IDs are personal; they shouldn’t be shared any more than you would share a toothbrush. If you share an Apple ID with someone else many bad things will happen. Each user should have their own Apple ID, then you can create Family Sharing→What is Family Sharing? - Apple Support. That way you can share what you want to share and not share what you don’t want to share.

It is OK to share an Apple ID among devices used by one person, such as an iPhone, an iPad and a Mac; in fact, it is a very useful thing to do. But not between devices used by different people.

Here is Apple’s FAQ: https://appleid.apple.com/faq/#!&page=faq. See the 4th bullet item.

Thanks for the Family Sharing links. The only other person using my ID is my wife so I don’t think anything “bad” will happen. I admit that trying to keep some things from cross pollinating would be easier using Family Sharing but with just the two of us on my account, there are many things that are much easier to share between devices. I may eventually move to Family Sharing especially if Apple doesn’t or can’t provide a way to originate and execute a business chat only on the originating device.

Here’s what will happen when you share an Apple ID:

  • All phone calls from any phone will be listing in Phone/Recents
  • Every text message will appear on all devices
  • All photos synced to iCloud will appear on all devices
  • All contacts synced to iCloud will appear on all devices
  • All Calendar entries...
  • All Reminders...
  • All Safari bookmarks...
  • All e-commerce confirmations...
  • All health app data will be combined for both of you...
  • Game center scores and histories will make it appear you are the same person...
  • All passwords will be shared...
  • Backups will be intermixed...

How are you going to order gifts for wife and keep them secret if she will see all of the confirmations?
