Apple Watch switches to mute

Ever since the last 0S upgrade, when I answer a phone call on my Apple Watch, The person Colleen can hear me but I cannot hear them. I looked this up and found out under sounds and haptics you uncheck the mute button. But it keeps getting reset. I finally figured out that when I put my watch on silent mode with the little bell, it is muting my haptics. I would like to not have the ringer on my watch but still be able to talk to people on my watch when they call. Before one of the last two upgrades, I was able to do this. I was able to have silent mode on my watch and still talk to people when they called.

According to the 'Mute your Apple Watch' section in:

Change the audio and notification settings on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

  1. Touch and hold the bottom of the watch face. Wait for Control Center to show, then swipe up.
  2. Tap the Silent Mode button . This turns on Silent Mode. You can still receive haptic notifications.

Also make sure you are not Do Not Disturb (see next section in link above).

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

If that doesn't help, the next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup just created. This should result in no loss of data. It deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system.
