It is only necessary to get another line if you intend to use the Watch with the cellular activated. It is not necessary to get the Watch cellular activated if one intends to have their paired iPhone nearby whenever using the Watch. The additional charge for the Watch should only be around $10/month, not the regular cost for another line. He would need to find out if this purchase was part of a deal where the Watch had to be activated with cellular to get a special price on the Watch. If not and he does not wish to continue paying, have him remove the cellular plan from the Watch.

You're welcome. The reason that I asked about the deal is because Verizon did something similar a year or two ago, but is was in the fine print that you had to activate the cellular on the Watch for a year to get the price point. If that does not appear in any of the paperwork, then he should be able to change it. That is why I never purchase from the carriers, and I always purchase directly from Apple. You have a good evening or whatever, because it is rapidly approaching my bedtime here!

Thank you again. I will have him check with them. That is what stopped me from purchasing one that day! I didn't want to add another line to my bill. If I am understanding you correctly, I can purchase that Apple Watch 6 from someone like Amazon and use it out of the box with my Iphone 11 and T-Mobile doesn't have to be involved at all. Is that correct?

That is correct. You do not need T-Mobile involved if you do not activated cellular. As a matter of fact, you can purchase a GPS only Watch and it is much cheaper than the GPS+Cellular and the two will work exactly the same if you have not activated the cellular on the cellular Watch.
