I want to connect a 13" MacBook Pro M1 2020 to my iMac 24" M1. It does not seem to work with a Thunderbolt cable. What am I doing wrong ?

It's not possible. Neither supports Target Display Mode.
You need an actual monitor.
So there's no way to add a second screen to my iMac 24" M1 ?
