Is My Account Secure

I received an email purporting to be from Apple advising me of an attempt to access my account from Norfolk, Virginia this afternoon. The link to verify my info looks like an Apple site. It’s asking for all of my account details, including my payment information. Your website is an unsecured site. Why would you be asking for all of my info, including payment info, on your site? How can I find out if my account really is locked for security purposes? I didn’t have any trouble logging in to use the Support services.

It is a phishing attempt. Do not respond. Do not divulge any personal or financial information. You can use the address below to forward the suspect email message, as an attachment to Apple.

reportphishing@apple.com

If you provided your Apple ID and password at the bogus site, change your password immediately.

The fact that your AppleID worked just fine to login here tells you your AppleID is not at all locked. The scam email lied about that too.

When Apple disables or locks an AppleID, they do not inform you. You’d only know when you tried to use your AppleID in the App, or music stores or some other Apple service account and discovered you could not login. You could then contact Apple support about it. But they won’t proactively inform you of the fact.

And if you’re using an Apple device signed into iCloud, alerts about your AppleID trying to sign in on another device typically come as iCloud notifications, not emails nor texts.
