I have Japanese physical layout in my MacBook pro and I am using Australia input source issue.

I have Japanese physical layout in my macbook pro and I am using Australia input source. Could you please tell me how can I use character like ~ and ‘. In general layout there is a dedicated for those character present beside key 1. Also is there a way to map these character to unused keys?

You can use Ukelele to make a custom layout. When doing that, make sure View > Keyboard Type in Ukelele is set to JIS.

Use the Keyboard Viewer on Mac - Apple Support.

Hope that helps to locate the characters for other languages, and special characters and symbols, on your keyboard.

Instead of Australian, try using the US input source. Then you will find ~ and ` at Shift ^ and Shift @.
