Big Sur updates 11.5.1 and 11.5.2 causes issues with installed printers

What is happening with the quality of macOS releases?????

Firstly, 11.5.1 installed corrupted access to existing installed printers that I needed to reset the printing system and re-installed my printers.

Today, 11.5.2 removed the printers altogether.

What is going with the Quality Assurance guys???? Get your act together

I'm sorry, this issue is not Apple's fault or problem. Apple (and other computer manufacturers) publish their interface requirements for their operating systems and it is up to the printer manufacturers to provide compliant software. I am sorry you are having printer problems. If you will bear with me, I will offer some things to consider. Whenever we install an operating system upgrade or some OS updates, printers and scanners will often stop working. Then a new OS compliant printer driver must be installed. Experience has shown that many printer manufacturers are very slow to provide updated drivers. Drivers for some older printers are never provided. (Apparently, they prefer to sell new printers.) What we can do is to thoroughly check the printer web site for an updated driver that works. If one is not available, then we should ask when one will be released. If that doesn't work, if the Printer has the Air Print feature, that can be used and no driver will be needed. (And it must be removed.) If not, then you can check the web site below where volunteers write drivers for older printers which are no longer supported, but which work with newer operating systems. It is worth checking out. Good luck.

Don't be so quick to let Apple off the hook for this. I know with 100% certainty that OS updates can and do ship with bugs that can break peripheral device communication. In my case, a perfectly functioning 3 month old Epson all-in-one is pretty much a brick after I updated to 11.5.2. I have submitted this issue to Epson and am waiting to hear back. That said, this could very well be a regression in 11.5.1 and 11.5.2.

I agree with you. OS updates and upgrades can have bugs in them and that is why newer releases are often issued. My point is that on this forum, people constantly blame Apple when they do an upgrade and a printer or scanner fails to function. In most cases the problem is an old non-compliant driver, but everyone is quick to immediately blame Apple without having determined the actual cause of the problem.
