iPad photo screenshots showing black

Some of the screenshots I took yesterday have turned black. The shots also show black on my linked iPhone however the screenshots taken before and after appear fine.

can anyone help me restore this or explain what has happened?

Hi Travelpicsuk,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities about your iPad’s screenshots.

It’s really unusual for the screenshots to turn black. Did they appear normal when you took the screenshot, and when you went back to view them later that’s when you noticed the picture was black?

Have you tried to Restart your iPad

Is your iPad updated to the latest iPadOS 14.7.1? Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

With it not happening anymore, it’s going to be difficult to troubleshoot. But let us know if there’s any other details you can share that may help with finding out what happened.

Have a great day!

Thanks for the reply:

The screenshots were okay when first taken on the iPad and the latest version of iOS is being used plus the iPad is only 6 months old. The iPhone also is running iOS 14.7..1

the images were automatically uploaded to the iCloud and when viewed the following day they appeared black on both my iPhone and the iPad that originally took the screenshots

I tried deleting and then restoring but nothing changed. There are 57 images that have been affected and they all show a file size of around as shown below
