Apple ID, Alias emails, recreating

How long after I delete a current alias email do I have to wait until I can try to recreate it and use for my new Apple ID?

Also. Can I create a new iCloud email address separate from my current Apple ID? And then later use that iCloud email address as my new Apple ID?

Thank you for helping me with this.

There have been posts by people who have contacted Apple Support and they were told that if you delete an ID associated with an email address, you can never reuse the email address for an Apple ID.  I have also seen posts that stated Apple told them there was a 30 day waiting period before the address could be used again. You will need to get another e-mail address to use as your Apple ID or you can try waiting 30 days to see if that works.

There is only one @iCloud account associated with your Apple ID. You have to use that address. You can't use an iCloud alias address as your Apple ID email address.

Based on what I have read, I suggest you leave your Apple ID email address as a 3rd party email address because you have more flexibility if you need to change the email address. For example, if the Apple ID got compromised, you can change it to another address. I also have read of many people who were locked out of their accounts when they forgot their password. Since the recovery email address is the @iCloud email address, if you forget your password, you also can't access your email to get emails from Apple to recover your account. You can set a rescue email address, but for some people, this hasn't worked.

Thanks for the reply.

As to question 1, I'm thinking I remember reading something about it has to not have been used for 1 year. Not 100% sure on that, why I was asking.

I'm sort of confused in your wording to answer 2. Let me try asking it another way.

Can I change my AppleID (currently a gmail address) to a different/new iCloud email address?

My goal is to not have gmail associated with my Apple ID... IF that means creating a NEW Apple ID and iCloud email and changing my Apple ID ok.

I hope I've asked this correctly.

  1. I am not sure and Apple has never said. It does seem that once an AppleID is deleted, the primary login email can never be used again as an AppleID. How that applies to aliases I don’t know.

  1. No. Your iCloud account is defined by the AppleID you used to create the email account you can never edit that @icloud.com address afterwards. If you want a new iCloud email address, you’d need a separate AppleID to use to create a new iCloud account. Since it would be a new AppleID and iCloud account, it would be wholly separate from your existing account (AppleIDs and their associated Apple service accounts cannot be merged).
