You cannot turn off Genius if you have iCloud Music Library enabled as part of Apple Music or iTunes Match. Turn off Sync Library first in preferences, turn off Genius, close iTunes, then turn Genius back on again and re-enable Sync Library.

See Identify cloud status icons in your music library on your Mac or PC - Apple Support. The error is with the matching/uploading service. You can try right-clicking and see if Add to Library is available to try and force it to have another go. If it still fails you may need to make a new copy of the song in 256K AAC format and see if that will match or upload.

Ah, turning Sync Library off and on again may have invalidated all locally stored Apple Music DRM protected content, which shouldn't be played directly from Finder. You may need to redownload any Apple Music content you want available for offline use in the Music library.

After I rebooted today, my Music app again doesn't think I have Apple Music. At least when I search for a song, it doesn't give me that option.
So I went through that procedure again. I can't get the search option on my iMac's Music app to give me the option to search in Apple Music.
I have unauthorized/authorized a couple of times while working on this.
I just opened it in safe mode and could search for Apple Music. Then I closed it and opened it again normally and could search for Apple Music. Twice, I found it working when earlier it wasn't working and wonder if there's some kind of delay.
I just checked iCloud Status for my songs and see 18 songs with "error" status, a couple hundred in "waiting" status, a bunch in "Apple Music" status, and thousands of "uploaded" and "matched" status.
I'll see what those show next time I lose the ability to search Apple Music.
This last week I haven't been able to search for songs on Apple Music on my M1 iMac, but other devices have no problem.
Thanks. That solved my other problem as well. I now see both "Apple Music" and "Your Library" when I search for a song.
Although I still can't play music in the "Apple Music" folder.
Should I just delete the Apple Music folder then and have it rebuilt itself as I play the music?
That should work, as long as you're talking about the Apple Music folder inside your designated media folder.

Yes, I turn on Sync library. I can turn it off and then on, but when I reboot, I can no longer search Apple Music (even though it shows on).
How odd. Try holding down option+cmd when you launch Music to open it in safe mode. You might also want to try deauthorizing and then reauthorizing the computer.

Hmm, I just played one of those songs in "error" status.
