Unable to erase MacBook Air big sur…

Question

Hi,

I am trying to erase our MacBook Air big sur but the erase button is light grey and says

‘this operation can't be performed beacause you can't unmount the volume your home folder is on’

can I please get an up to date point by point instructions please?

You cannot erase the drive/volumes you are booted to. You must boot into Recovery Mode using the instructions in this Apple article:
