My App Store brings up a totally blank screen
How do I get the App Store to load such that the screen isn't always blank?

I fixed it, in the System Preferences. I went to Network, Choose Network Name to your network, unlock and go to advanced, go to Proxies, unchecked HTTP Proxies and HTTPS Proxies, at the bottom selected Use Passive FTP mode, deleted a local *** insert in the bypass proxy settings for these hosts and domains, then Apply settings. App Store now comes up as normal with updates etc.

I tried to change the bash shell to zsh but it didn't do anything.
