Here's what to check. Try again after each step:

  1. Use the USB cable that came with your device. If you don't have it, try a different Apple USB cable.
  2. Switch to a different USB port on your computer. Don't plug into your keyboard.
  3. Switch to a USB port on a different computer.
  4. If you still see the error, ➔ check for other USB issuescheck your third-party security software, then ➔ check your hardware.

If you still see an error, ➔ contact Apple Support.

Do you have a backup of that iPad anywhere? If YES then you can ➔ restore from that backup file. Did you use iCloud for Photos on that iPad? If YES then you can log in to ➔ www.icloud.com and ➔ export the photos from iCloud on to your computer.

Thanks Axel.

Appreciate the sharing on the cable and USB terminals checks. I have swapped different USB cables. I will try using another laptop to do the backup or recovery. See if it is due to the ipad internal hardwares failure.

For the cloud recovery, I can do a check if the data are recoverable from there I have uploaded them previously.
