How to connect with display with a closed lid and not plugged in?

Hi I know if I plug my laptop in to charge while it's connected to my monitor it will work perfectly on my monitor, however, if I unplug it from the outlet it will turn off my MacBook.

Now that my MacBook is charged fully at 100% it doesn't make sense to keep it charging, so I'd like to unplug it without it affecting anything. How can I do this?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

Do you know what Apple may be doing with their lithium ion batteries that may be different than other ones? I've done a bit of research and typical lithium ion batteries are not supposed to be plugged in continuously. Maybe you are not understanding how Apple manages the charge cycle. I think you may be hung up on step 3 in your link. Apple Macs manage battery charging when plugged in. The battery never gets to nor remains at 100%. See About battery health management in Mac notebooks - Apple Support

Outside of that. I'm not very concerned with it. I could follow all the best advice out there and maybe gain a few months extra on an individual battery, but it's just not worth the hassle for me. As I mentioned, my current battery is four years old, and when I unplug, still maintains hours of charge and has consumed 43 charging cycles out of the anticipated 1,000. Based on my past experience, I full anticipate the battery being consumed before the end of life of my MacBook and I'll just need to find power. Maybe that won't happen with the current MacBook Pro. On my 2009 I bought a new battery after maybe 5 years (I can't remember) and kept the computer until last summer as the second battery was winding down practical use.

I've read that it does hurt the battery: https://www.macworld.com/article/234348/dont-keep-your-mac-laptop-charged-to-100-percent-all-the-time-heres-why.html

Then sometimes I read your input so unfortunately I don't know what to trust. I end up just not keeping it plugged in, especially considering Apple's history of batter abuse with iPhones.

Let me know if there's something that can make me more sure. Thanks!
