Can iPhone 8 PLUS be on 5G network?

How can I check if my iPhone 8 PLUS is using 5G ?! My carrier is boost mobile and they put a 5G SIM card into my new iPhone 8PLUS but I don’t see the 5G symbol were the 4g symbol used to be.. How can I check? Did they lie to me?

iPhones earlier than the iPhone 12 can't use 5G.
