Watch Activity not updating friends

Starting a few days ago, my Apple Watch stopped updating my friends' activity- both on the watch and the iPhone app. After searching the communities, I've:

• powered both watch and phone off and back on
• logged out of iCloud and back on
• unpaired the watch and then re-paired it

Logging out of iCloud seems to resolve the problem temporarily......it will update friends' activity up until that moment, but then stop updating from that point forward. Essentially if I want to keep track of where I stand, I have to continuously sign out and in of iCloud- which is a hassle of course.

Are there any further solutions? The problem began randomly on my end and not associated with any update on either device.
