Do you need an iPhone to use Apple Watch 6 for the ECG readings

I’m thinking of getting the Apple Watch 6. Is it necessary to have an IPhone to avail of the features I’m interested in i.e., EKG and blood oxygen. I currently have an Android phone . Or would the watch would work on my iPad ?

An Apple Watch requires a compatible iPhone. According to Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support:

"To set up and use your Apple Watch, you need an iPhone with the latest version of iOS."
