Hi so today I managed somehow to get the bar on the side of the screen and when I drag it across, it shows the full volume control that you can drag up and down to change the volume.
The problem is that I don’t know how I did this and would like to find out how I could make it show again just because it was super handy to have.

Unfortunately there is no way to have it stay permanently.
If you like the slider format of changing the volume you can open control center, and that same slider will be there to control the volume, and to control the screens brightness!
To open control center, swipe down from the top right of your screen if you have an iPhone X or higher. If you have an iPhone 8 or lower, simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen!

This was added in IOS 13. It is turned on by default. I don't think you can turn it off though.
Oh maybe it was just frozen then. But I was wondering if there was a way to make it stay there permanently so I don’t have to mess around with the buttons cause I have a bumper case and so a bit annoying to press buttons sometimes.

Yes but it was staying on the screen, not just when I was using the volume buttons.

The volume slider appears when you use the volume buttons on the side of your iPhone. For instance, if you press the volume up button, or volume down button the slider will appear.

It stays on the screen as long as you are using it.
For instance if you press and hold it to change the volume, it will stay. It would then stay for a few seconds, close to a smaller window, then completely disappear.
If yours is still on your screen as is frozen, try restarting your phone.
