How do I know if I need to update Safari on my MacBook?

Safari will update with macOS. They’re always linked to each other, and can’t be updated independently of each other.

If there are updates available for your model Mac, then install those. (Unless you have third party software dependencies that would break with later versions macOS.)

macOS upgrades differ from updates by major version changes: 10.10.x to 10.11.x is considered an upgrade; 10.11.5 to 10.11.6 is considered an update.

Your model Mac and its introduction year (season) will determine which versions macOS are compatible. Let us know for assistance.
