Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, you're connected to Wi-Fi but it doesn't reflect this in the Menu Bar.
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > and make sure you're connected to a network. (Sounds like you've done this already.)
If you're using a VPN or security software, we'd recommend to disable them and restart the device. As these may be blocking the connection.
In Settings > Wi-Fi > tap the 'i' next to the network name. If the beginning of your IP address starts with 169, then it's a self-assigned IP address. You'd want to try to restart the modem and router. If the issue persists, with the same beginning, then you'd want to contact your internet provider.
Make sure the correct time and date are showing up in Settings > General > Date & Time.
If the issue continues, then you'd want to Contact Apple Support
