Hi genegrossmick,

Welcome to the Apple Community, where some of us do our best to help each other :)

You might want to check your Settings, and Screen Time for any restrictions ?

Wondering if you have changed your Apple ID or Apple ID password lately.

If so, you might need to update your sign-in information with any Apple services,

like( iMessage, Facebook, iCloud and more) that you're using.

The support page (link below) can help in this situation:

What to do after you change your Apple ID or password:

If all is ok with Apple ID,

To use iMessage or FaceTime, you need to activate them on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

You might want to try these articles to see if anything there helps:

If you can’t turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime

or if you see an error message during activation:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201422

Or

If you can't sign in to iMessages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

or if you see an alert when you send a message,

or if you can’t send or receive messages, learn what to do.

Hope this helps :)
