High CPU usage- LSOF

My mid-2010 MBP running High Sierra is showing high CPU usage for LSOF- close to 100%. All the time, and fan is constantly noisy.

Of course, there's no CPU for other tasks... computer is slow.

Why is it doing this?

I googled this, and some people said this could be related to Adobe Acrobat or recently installed software.

So, I got rid of all Adobe apps and also recently added softwares, but the issue remains basically the same.

Any other ideas of what else to check?

After deleting those diebold files, I wrote the following command on terminal:

sudo launchctl unload -F /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.diebold.warsaw.plist

See what happened right afterwards:

So I guess the diebold files were the problem.

I will just restart MBP to check if LSOF won't peak the CPU again.

Later, reinstall AVAST.

Should I reinstall Java as well?

Thanks for helping and for finding the solution.

Find what is calling LSOF...

Find the Process Listening to Port on Mac OS X - btaz

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

https://pastebin.com/

Whew, they've changed pastebin & made it harder, but after pasting in, click Create new paste button, then Embed button, then copy the URL...

<script src="https://pastebin.com/embed_js/KuvnghqA"></script>

The important part of the above is between the quote marks...

If pastebin is a problem for you then workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...

Oh, that’s nasty.

The bank gets users to install (busted?) Diebold code—what amounts to installing malware—as “security”?

Reminiscent of the Sony rootkit scandal.

Also fodder for some added EtreCheck flagging by etresoft.

Dear BDAqua,

I have downloaded ETRECHECK, (free version) and I have attached the report after I ran it.

For the pastebin path, see link https://pastebin.com/embed_js/ypTxue60.

I have also looked for the processes that were being run under LSOF port 10 using the procedure from BTAZ, and killed them afterwards. But it didn't help.

The Safe Mode Startup procedure I did also try before, and the problem did not show up. But starting it on regular mode is always the same.

Looking forward for your reply and thanks for helping.

Get your backups going. Preserving your data is the priority here, and should be happening again before making any changes.

Remove Avast.

Remove AppCleaner.

Remove Java, unless you need that.

Consider removing the Google apps, as those apps been known to get very busy in the background,

The Apple MRT malware removal tool has been active, whether that’s due to malware, or colliding with another installed app is unclear.

I’d leave Java off, unless some other app you use starts grumbling about not having that installed. If something else you need uses it, reload it. Otherwise, leave it off. One less app to maintain.

As for re-loading Avast, I wouldn’t add anti-malware. Use the existing Apple (Gatekeeper/XProtect/MRT) anti-malware. While Avast has had some… surprises in the past, I’d expect they were not the only anti-malware or add-on VPN vendor involved in those activities.
