When I buy a new iMac, may I copy the info from a MacBookAir using the migration Assistant, assuming that I will still use both machines ? I actually wish to copy, not migrate the information

Everythign that is on the older Mac will remain there, what you want to migrate (files, settings, apps) are what will migrate to the new Mac. Please use the steps in Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant to have a successful migration. It is the most reliable and overall fastest method to use!

You will Migrate, which only moves/copies your data to the new iMac. It does not remove your data from the MacBook Air and you can still use both.

Also if you have a Time Machine back? It is much faster, easier and more reliable to migrate to the new iMac using the Time Machine backup, than it is to migrate from the MacBook Air to the iMac.
