Ruler not working on IPad Pro, pen doesn’t recognise the ruler is on the screen

HI, I’m having trouble when marking up a PDF on my IPad. I’m trying to use the ruler to draw lines on the PDF, which I have done plenty of times before but now the IPad pencil wont recognise the ruler is on the screen and draws right through it. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix it?

Currently using an IPad Pro 10.5” with software version 14.3 running and a Gen 1 pencil.

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. If we understand, the ruler function of Markup on your iPad Pro doesn't seem to be working as expected with your Apple Pencil. You've come to the right place for help!

First, we see you are running iPadOS 14.3. We'd recommend starting with updating your iPadOS to 14.7.1: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.

If the issue persists after that, try backing up the iPad: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support and reinstalling the iPadOS, following the "Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again" section of If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.
