Well, then you should be "well versed" in the ways of Apple. ;) It's why I make full clone copies before each minor/major update/upgrade ... been at this a bit longer than you. My first Mac was an Apple IIc.
Well, sorry, I cut my teeth on the Apple II with a TV monitor. I'm a bit ahead of you, but left Apple in the 80s for some years before the Macs came out because my employer was a Windows house. Anyway, there were no system upgrades in 1977, so those years don't count. I rejoined the Apple world in the late 90s, but still have a Windows laptop.
I do double backups, so I will be fine, but it just chaps me that what should be a simple upgrade killed just about everything on my hard drive. I'm having to re-set up mail and other stuff, just time consuming. It may be weeks before I get everything back in order. Unnecessary!
Of course, anything can go wrong with performing an update/upgrade. Have you tried restoring to the previous version from a backup yet?
Of course!? I’ve been upgrading Mac OSS for 20 years and never had this happen.
Yes, restore in progress but it could take days.
