How come I can only get emails from Apple on my iPad but no mail from anyone else

I purposely sent myself email from my other email to my iCloud and will not come through. This all started when I canceled my subscription for storage. I have plenty of storage space available so that’s not the issue. Apple seems to do weird things when you cancel something

Are these other people sending to the same email address as Apple (presumably your Apple ID)?
If not, maybe you just need to add the email account they are using to your iPad.
Do your correspondents receive an error message when they try to send you email?
If so, what does it say?
