Creating picture from a video

Thank you. I was hoping to see individual frames making up my video so I could then print a picture of one. I hope this makes sense and someone can help me. I used to be able to do it all the time long ago on my MAC.

iMac 27″, macOS 10.15

Open the video in Photos. Use the controls in the control bar to advance the video to the frame that you want to capture. Then click on the little gear icon on the right side. In the pop up menu, click on Export Frame to Pictures. The frame will appear as a picture in the Pictures folder on your Mac.

Ah. Thanks Tony.

Just another reason why I have not updated. 😊

Can the video be played at all in the new version? If so, I suppose one could pause it and take a screen shot. Otherwise, I guess one could export the video, open it in VLC, and use its Snapshot feature to obtain a shot of the desired frame.

From all I have read and heard, I much prefer Photos 4 over 5 or 6.

The keyframe method might not be good because its resolution might well be inferior to the movie.

But the "Image > Edit with QuickTime" copy & paste to Preview and export as desired preserves all available resolution nicely.

Or instead QuickTime use GraphicConverter as the external editor with even more export options:

p.s. for (16-bit color) scans lossless .tif zip is my favorite archive format (zip with prediction it might produce smaller files).
