I'm concerned about moving from a PC to a MAC. Will I need to move to Apple applications?

I use Google for photos email and number of other programs. What do you think? Advice?e Google, but if the MAC browser is good I couls change. I understand there is a file transfer program, but what of applications. For instance, Is the Google suite compatible. (I haven't ruled out just moving tho the applications on the MAC? Thank you!!

If you’re using Google services, stay with Google services.

if you’re using Microsoft Office, stay with Office.

You will need to acquire macOS or iOS or iPadOS versions of the apps involved, as the Windows versions of the apps will not work.

The documents can be copied around.

Expect to need a decent-sized hard disk for backups, maybe 4 to,6 TB in size (that’s about the best price-capacity range lately), with the size depending on how much data you have and how fast your data is changed. Time Machine can then be used, and can take care of your backups, recovery, and migration to,a,new Mac when this Mac is replaced in five or seven or however many years.

General comments…

If you order an M1-based system, I’d get the 16 GB configuration, and get more storage than you think you need. Newer Mac M1 storage and newer Mac M1 memory is not upgradable. Get what you need for the life of your Mac.)

I don’t tend to use the Google tools and for various reasons, and the Safari browser does well for my needs.

Web based applications do not need migrating so items like Google apps is not an issue. If you have applications that are Windows only apps, you will need to buy their Mac equivalents though. You likely are like most users and have photos, music, movies that you will to move to the Mac, in that case it is very simple.

Millions have gone before you, meaning migrating from a PC to a Mac. It's relatively painless but you need to organize what you want to migrate. If you want to be more detailed about your concerns I'm sure we can help you through it.

Guys, I appreciate the help. I noticed when looking at the basic MAC it didn't have enough RAM or diskspace. When you start adding things the price goes up appreciably. Of course everyone knows that. I'm on a fixed income so will have to watch the cost. It appears the MAC has many desirable features that would really be nice. I'm told everything works and is easy to use.

Thanks again everyone!

You might consider a refurbished Mac directly from Apple.

Same quality as new. Same factory warranty. Lower price.

Specific models and configurations come and go, so if you don't see something compelling today, look again tomorrow or in a few days.
