Mac Mini M1 60hz 4K Monitor - LG 32UN880 - Solved

Hi ...I was googling for the problem that my Mac Mini M1 Big Sur 11.5.2 couldn't get 60hz with the LG 32UN880 using the HDMI or USB-C cable included on 4K resolution, all of the suggestion didn't work at all.

I solved it accidentally after trying different method I could think of ....it's so simple, HDMI won't display a 60hz, so you must use the included USB-C cable, or any better USB-C cable I guess.

Both the Mac and monitor should be turned off, plug the USB-C cable on both end (of course), then turn on the Mac Mini, but don't turn on the monitor yet ...you need to wait until you are sure it's already on the login page, around 15-20 seconds, then turn on the monitor ....whoalaaa 4K 60hz!!! ...this works for me everytime.

You don't need to do the "ritual" if you just turn both the Mac and monitor to sleep.

May be this also works with other Macs and monitors setup, cheers.

Understanding your aversion to forking out more money unnecessarily (I feel the same), I'll just throw this out there.

Your workaround is sound, until it becomes necessary to troubleshoot the Mac or boot to anything but a normal startup screen - like a safe boot or recovery mode restart. If that works, then you're golden. If not, then it becomes problematic in the event you have an issue with the Mac.

Just sayin'.

Take care, my friend.
