Were you backing up to your MacBook? If the phone was not powered down since your last backup you might be able to back up the phone to your MacBook. Plug it in and look under locations in finder. If you can access the phone there, you can select back up all the data on this phone to your Mac. It will display the last date of backup there too so you know when it's done. You'll then have a backup of your device so you can safely have the phone repaired/replaced and restore from that backup.
You may also be able to select the device directly in photos and import all new images. Open photos. Click on your device. This may require unlocking the phone.
If none of those work, and you know you have iCloud backup enabled, just leave the phone plugged in at least overnight. And walk away. You can see the last iCloud backup in iCloud.com/settings. Scroll to the bottom on your MacBook. If you use iCloud photos, your photos will back up to photos automatically but will not be in the iCloud backup. It doesn't sound like you use iCloud photos based on what you said about your pictures. So, hopefully the images will backup along with your phone to iCloud.
If you don't have any of that set, you're going to lose all the pictures since February.
