Upgrade a 2017?

It should not affect anything, and in fact BigSur should feel a bit faster and more responsive than Catalina.

Though for a while after updating battery may last less as post update functions complete and use up more power than normal.

The only issue would be whether all your 3rd party apps and device drivers are compatible so check to make sure if you need updates or upgrades before installing Big Sur.
