Adding accents while typing
I used to be able to add French accents by holding down the letter (a, e, etc.) and getting a pop-up screen to choose the accent. I seem to have lost that with OS 11.5.1. How can I get it back?

One way to get it working again involved adding another latin-based language to the list of Input Sources. You can then remove it.
You can try copy/pasting this command into Terminal:
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true

Have you rebooted since you typed that in? You need a reboot to activate.
Thanks, but that does not seem to make a difference. Is there something else that I should type in?
Thanks to both of you. I'm back in business.
