I just got a Mac book and I don't have an iPhone so i don't have a phone number. My husband has an iPhone and and iPad. I would like to be able to send him messages from my laptop. how do I do this?
Also every time I log into iMessages, it opens for like 15 seconds then closes while telling me to log back in. I have never owned Apple products in my life. Please help! Thank you.

Try updating your macOS.
Did you get this MacBook new, or did you get a MacBook given to you by somebody else? If the latter, and it wasn’t already re-installed, re-installing macOS is recommended, as it clears out old app ownerships and old settings and the rest of the previous owner. If you “took over” their macOS login, that usually ends badly.

Is your Mac connected to the Internet?
Did you updated macOS?
Did you restore you Mac from backup?
What else did you do other then restart your laptop?
FYI, this is a user to user technical forum, you are not speaking with Apple.

To what version (exact number and not the phase to the latest) ?
Is iMessages setup?
Do you have iCloud enabled?

The biggest issue is that the app does not stay open. I have restarted the laptop. Nothing changes.
Did not help.
It is connected to the Internet. I updated, and restarted. I have not restored from backup, it is a brand new laptop.
