Watching iTunes movies on VGA monitor

Windows 10 Pro, 21H1, iTunes 12.11.4.15

I have a laptop with a monitor connected to it via VGA cable. I can watch movies on the laptop's screen, but I cannot watch them on the monitor, though it was possible almost a year ago, now iTunes just freezes whenever I start playing a movie, and I have to stop the process in the task manager. I tried different settings, but it didn't help.

Is there any workaround for this? Or do I have to buy a HDMI cable now for some reason? (Will it help, if I do?)

Thank you in advance for any tips and advices!

P. S. I experience this problem almost a month. In the meantime, I tried everything I could from topics about iTunes freezing when playing video, so creation of a new library and moving files didn't help.

I don't know how I watched movies before. Maybe I watched them on laptop's display and forgot it.

I purchased HDMI cable. Everything is fine now.

Dear turingtest2 and other community members,

yesterday I was a happy iTunes user. I was able to watch one movie after I purchased the HDMI cable.

Today I have the same issue: I can watch a movie on laptop's screen, but not on the monitor, though I use HDMI port now.

Any ideas?..

Protected video needs to be played over an HDCP compliant connection, typically DVI or HDMI. VGA is not compliant.

Is the monitor on the HDMI cable active before you launch iTunes? Reboot and try again?

It happened after the laptop was locked for some time, iTunes wasn't launched.

After reboot everything works fine.
