In Procreate, I started using a new brush for shading and a gentle brushstroke appears to have revealed the hardware underlying the screen (see image below)! Yuck! This is ruining the shading, obviously, but I’m more interested in fixing this visual problem/wondering if this is a problem that can be fixed? I have not noticed this with other brushes.
I’m running Procreate 5x on a 2021 iPad Pro 11”.

Are you sure this brush was not designed to deposit a texture? There are brush packages that include “texture” brushes intended to act exactly as your illustration shows.
This brush was definitely intended to deliver a texture, but the texture you can see is there—the fuzzy, furry, gravely ness of it. I’m 99% sure the texture was not meant to have a repeating square pattern!
