Time Machine does not recognise my SSD

I purchase a new Samsung T7 SSD to speed up backups on Time Machine.

I am running Big Sur 11.5.2 on my 16inch Macbook Pro.

I formatted it and it is recognised in Finder and in Disk Utility.

I open Time Machine to add a new Backup Disk, and it is not shown as attached and available.

What is problem ?

The file system recognises the drive, Disk Utility can format it and recognises it, but it is invisible to Time Machine.

I had partitioned the drive then intialised the large partition as MacOS Extended (Journaled).

So now I have intialised the entire drive, then partitioned the Time Machine area, and that works.

That is some guidance that Apple's Time Machine setup instructions should include..

Thanks for the insight.
