Can’t use mobile number for iMessages

Hey, so my girlfriend has been having this issue lately:

She recently got herself a new iPhone 12 and decided to change her Apple ID (sign out from her family-shared account, that’s basically a single account with 20+ devices linked to it, and switch to her new, own one which was **** of a mess to do).

The issue is, she cannot set iMessage properly to use her phone number to identify as iMessage user as default. The loading circle in settings keeps spinning but for some weird reason it doesn’t wanna switch from AppleID to phone number.

My theory is that her phone number is still somehow connected to the old family-shared AppleID.

Is there a quick and easy solution for this?
