Will Final Cut Pro 10.4.6 work on Mojave OSX 10.14

I have a Mac Book Pro 15 inch Mid 2012 machine.

I am currently running OS 10.13.6 High Sierra.

I am trying to determine whether it is "safe" to upgrade the OS to 10.14 Mojave, without creating problems with Final Cut Pro.

Currently Software Update is NOT offering me updates to either the OS (from my current 10.13.6) OR an update for Final Cut.

I attach images of specs for the two graphics cards installed on the Mac Book Pro.

The Apple Website has conflicting information about whether or not I can upgrade to Mojave OX 10.14

As the screen grab shows, both cards in my machine support Metal but the specific cards I have aren't in the approved apple list. Please see what this Apple page says.

So I suppose it's a two part questions

1) CAN I upgrade to Mac OSX 10.14 Mojave on my mid 2012 Mac Book Pro, generally?

2) IF I do this upgrade, will I have a problem with Final Cut Pro?

THANK YOU!!!!

That document has been archived and really should be deleted. I'm in High Sierra and found these.

Interesting...searching the App Store doesn't bring up Mojave...See screen grab.

And then when I go to the Apple web page re how to upgrade to Mojave

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208898#cards

The link to upgrade takes me to Big Sur not Mojave:

download and install macOS Mojave

I'm most grateful for your continued input and look forward to your thoughts on this latest conundrum!

Fabulous, Tom!

Thanks for checking on the graphics card. I've attached an image of what I see with software update at this stage, to answer your question.

Are you saying that the best way to do this OS upgrade to Mojave is with the twocanoes app you mention above?

(I'm wondering why one can't do this via Apple...)

Another question, please: once I update the OS, does Final Cut automatically go to a different version?

And if it does, how does that impact my opening all of my current projects in Final Cut? (I am currently workin in FCP 10.4.6)

HUGE thanks!

Hello Tom!

Please see screen grab to show an expanded version of Software Update info (per your advice of clicking on "more"...I also clicked on unsupported updates in the same window). The "more" doesn't reveal anything about Mojave.

Why do you say it your most recent reply that looks like the update has been downloaded?

I've restarted my Mac many times since going to High Sierra, so I don't think that's why it hasn't updated.

So I suppose that brings me back to my remaining question of why Apple isn't offering this update in my software update, and I would have to do it through the twocanoes app.

(Just my technology paranoia talking here, as in why doesn't the Apple system want this computer to update the OS...)

Thanks for the excellent advice about backups of the libraries and FCP version I'm currently using.

There are two Mid 2012s, Retina and non-Retina, but I don't think it makes a difference. The graphics cards are fine. They're not listed because the list is for after market cards; yours are factory installed. Sorry I couldn't check that earlier.

What are you seeing in Software Update? When you're in that panel, try using Cmd-R.

There is an application called MDS https://twocanoes.com/products/mac/mac-deploy-stick/ that lets you download full installers for macOS systems.

The update has been downloaded it looks like. Restart it and see what happens when you come back. Also click the More button and see what's under there.

If you go to Mojave, I'm pretty sure 10.4.6 will still work. If not, it will want to update to FCP 10.4.10, which by the way still runs in the latest OSs.

If the software is updated to 10.4.10 the libraries will be updated. They will no longer work in earlier versions of the software, so you might want to make backups of the libraries and the FCP version you're now using for safety. The easiest way is to compress them. The ZIP file can be opened with the originals should you need too access them.

Because of the Restart buttons. That usually indicates that the software's been installed but requires a restart, probably because of a firmware change or something else. If this keeps appearing after restarting, there is something odd going on with the system.

I really don't know why you're not seeing any system update. You should be seeing Catalina. You could also do a search in the App Store for macOS Mojave.

Just discovered this:

"If your Mac has more than one volume with macOS installed, you need to use the Startup Disk pane in System Preferences to switch between operating systems. Holding down Option while restarting doesn't allow you to choose an operating system on these Mac Pro models."

My Mac Book Pro has TWO partitions. One is running High Sierra. The other is running 10.8 (to be able to open old Final Cut projects) - BUT the startup Disk on my Mac Book Pro IS the High Sierra 10.14 partition. Might the existence of two partitions be part of the problem, even though the start up disc is High Sierra 10.13.6? THANK YOU!
