out of space on restore attempt

My IPad Pro is disabled and I am attempting to update the IOS from Itunes to restore it. I get down to about 10 minutes left to install the ipad software update and it tells me I am out of space and stops. I am only left with attempting again with the same results. how can I delete what is on the ipad (while unable to access it) to free up enough space to do the software update to Recover the Ipad?

Thanks for the advice, however the problem is that the Ipad is disabled and I cannot access it to get into the settings directly, so I am unable to manually delete or remove software on the device itself. My hope was that I would be able to install this software update so I can then restore my content. is there a way to flash the memory/hard drive without accessing it, and then install the software?
