Mail, Skype for Business Open on Startup

This is the second MacBook Pro I've owned. I transferred all of my settings and files from the 2015 13" MacBook Pro to this 2019 16" MacBook Pro. One of those settings was the automatic launch of Mail and Skype for Business on the initial login. This poses an issue when I'm in a lecture hall and I start my computer up for the first time that day. I don't want my inbox on display to anyone sitting behind me. I checked System Preferences and I haven't found a way to prevent these apps from opening automatically. What should I do?

Hey there JMath13,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you want to prevent some apps from opening automatically when you start up your Mac. We’ll be happy to help.

Did you check in Users & Groups in System Preferences when looking for ways to stop this from occurring? That should be where you find this option. Take a look at the info under “Add or remove automatic items” from this article for ways to do this:

Open items automatically when you log in on Mac

You can also find some useful info here as well:

Prevent apps and windows from reopening

Take care.
