Apple ID and Username problem

Not sure when or how this happened but,

My macbook user name password and Apple ID passwords are different and always have been.
Now though, when trying to access my iCloud account on Safari etc it only allows me to enter my MacBook user name password?
From here I try to access manage my Apple ID page, and again can only access this using my macbook user name password??.
Trying to use my Apple ID password does not work, but all my devices use my Apple ID password.

Hi bevan73,

We understand you're trying to access your account on the iCloud and Apple ID websites. We're happy to offer some guidance.

If you're already signed into an account on those websites, you'll just need to sign out so you can sign in to the Apple ID you want to view.

On the iCloud website just click on the name at the top right of the page, then select Sign Out. This will return you to the main sign in page on the iCloud website where you can enter the Apple ID you want to sign in to.

On the Apple ID website click the Sign Out button at the top right of the page to return you to the main sign in page on the Apple ID website.
