Why is iCloud so terrible?

I've grown to really hate iCloud. I got this great Mac with a i7 and 16 gig, but the onboard storage is so slim, it can barely hold a few apps with only a handful of files for them. I get that the idea is to buy a monthly subscription to iCloud (which I did), but then iCloud becomes spotty, you never know what's getting stored and when, and when you want to look through files that seem to be on your computer, the thumbnail goes away and you have to download each file to see what they are.

Is there some way to set up iCloud to be more specific? All I get when I manage storage is desktop as an "automatic" file storage option, and even that stores at random. I mean this thing was close to 3k$ and I have to use an external drive AND the iCloud and I STILL can't keep it from constantly filling up and getting "scratch disk full" errors.

It's incredibly frustrating!

Or, hey, can I upgrade the hard drive on this thing??

With regards to using iCloud to store content from the Mac, you can find a lot of helpful tips and steps to take here: Use iCloud Drive to store documents on your Mac, iPhone, and iPad

For help with optimizing your storage space, we'd suggest trying some of the suggestions here:

There's some additional info here that may help out, specifically with using iCloud Drive as storage/syncing: Work with folders and files in iCloud Drive

We hope that helps a bit.

Take care.

it is the absolute worst.... when i sign into my one_drive it's always there and easy to drop and drag in and out of. I feel like the large directories that I want out at one time are there until I just decide to delete them because i can't download a directory in the browser version of it. So i have to first.... transfer it to my phone and hope i have space for it.... then transfer it to my one drive for ease of access... then jump on my computer to pull the directory onto my laptop.
