iphoto isn't supported in this version of macOS

i have photos uploaded to an external hard drive (seagate) from an old MacBook, 2009. Still works but seems to be on shaky ground...I have removed the Seagate back up and plugged it into our newer MacBook air. The photos won't open. pop up says: iPhoto isn't supported in this version of macOS. Please upgrade to photos...

On which computer do I need to do that and where can I find the app?

thanks

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 10.15

iPhoto was discontinued and replaced by the "Photos" app about 6 years ago. Any Mac running Yosemite 10.10.3 or later will have Photos. Hold down the option key while opening the Photos app and you will be given the option to open the iPhotos library and it will convert it to Photos.
