Changing the voice language on Google Maps

I have always been frustrated by the fact that in order to I have my navigation guidance in another language other than North American English, I would be faced with changing the language and region settings on my entire iPhone. I have just found out that if I delete the Google Maps app, then change the language Setting of the phone, (in my case to UK English), reinstall Google Maps, Then the language in navigation is as expected UK English. However, if I then put my phone language back to English (as in English Canada), then my Google maps announcements are still made with a UK English voice. I am surprised this is not mentioned on any online solutions that I have researched so far. Has anyone found a simpler way of achieving this?
