Installstion issues with Boot Camp Assistant

I cannot install Boot Camp on my iMac. I recently installed Boot Camp but had to uninstall because I couldn't find my Windows 10 product key. I located the key and am ready to re-install Boot Camp but I receive multiple errors during installation. I've tried running First Aid on my disk and looked for free space on the partition using the Disk Utility. I've also received an error saying there is not enough disk space even though I have 296GB available for the 42GB Windows partition. I'm also using Parallels with Windows installed. My computer specs are as follows:

mac OS Big Sure V 11.5.2

iMac 27" Late 2015

3.2GHz Quad Core Intel i5

24 GB Ram

iMac Line (2012 and Later)

After a trip to the Apple repair store, I'm back up and running. It does seem there is some file formatting differences in Big Sur that can cause problems. They restored my computer to Catalina. Interestingly, they were able to restore using the lates test backup but my photo library wouldn't open in Catalina (possibly also because of different file format?) After installing Boot Camp along with Windows software, I re-upgraded to Big Sur. The only problem I had was that I had to fix my Photos library. I am also able to use Parallels in the Mac OS reading from the Boot Camp drive. Thanks for your help.

After I log into the Internet and get to the recovery options here are a few of the problems:

  1. The install OS X takes me to an option to install Mac El Capitan. When I click continue to install I get a message saying “ could not find installation information for this machine. Contact AppleCare”
  2. i’ve also tried restoring from a time machine back up. After I enter my time capsule password and hit continue nothing happens.

I’ve tried installing El Capitan using a USB stick used for restoring an old laptop without success.

I think my only option now is to take it in to be repaired 😦

Can you retry BC Assistant and post the exact error messages you see? Screen shots will also work.

Also, post the output of

sudo fsck_apfs -n -l /dev/rdisk1

Be aware that macOS Big Sur can be problematic. You can also try to disconnect all external peripherals (except Keyboard/Mouse/Trackpad), reset SMC and NVRAM and retry BC Assistant.
