This is quite possibly a problem caused by running out of storage. Back it up to a Mac or Windows system, wipe it, reload, and restore your backup. That’ll probably clear the corruption here, and it’ll update the iPhone, though there will be on-going problems with what seems storage inadequate for your needs, unfortunately.

By manually you mean download the 4 apps and drag them into the Safari icon?

There aren’t apps for this, it is (supposed to be) in-built. On recent releases, it’s at Settings > Safari > Search Engine. If you’re not getting multiple search engines offered, your install is seemingly somehow corrupted, and with an unclear cause. A restart might or might not clear this. You’re also four major iOS versions back, if you’re really still on iOS 10 with that iPhone 6s, and that update will fix a lot of bugs.

The present version on my phone is 14.4.1 and I do have a new update request. However my wife has the same phone that too is ready for the same update but she still has her apps. I have to make some storage room to perform the update and may end up doing that. I just think there is another reason for the disappearing apps. Thanks for weighing in.

I have the option to choose between Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia by going to Safari search engines. I thought the icons were meant to be a shortcut on the Safari search page for convenience. My present IOS version is 14.4.1 however I am being asked to do an update that I have put off due to lack of storage space. Thanks for your input.
