Need help on cable to connect HD with MacBook Pro

Want to upgrade my MacBook Pro and a friend gave me a brand-new WD "My Passport" HD - which is really made for PCs.

How do I determine which cable would actually connect my MacBook Pro and that HD?

Ports on my Older LACIE external hard drive are not compatible with new MacBook Pro I believe the ports on the LACIE are 2 firewire 800 and a USB 3.0 USB 2.0 compatible. Cable I’m thinking of getting the latest MacBook Air to replace my mid 2010 MacBook Pro. I want to use my LaCie external hard drive for backups, which has a USB 2.0 cable. What type of cable would I need for that?
