Can’t change password

iforgot.apple.com not sending text or message after 2 week wait. How can I change my password. I have been trying to change the password for several months. I called support and the girl said it’s totally automated and there is nothing that can be done if the system don’t send the instructions. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she said she doesn’t have a boss and there is no one that can help. I highly doubt if Tim Cook needed to change his password they would tell him that.

Well, there’s nothing we in this user-to-user forum can do. But things to check:

Do you have 2 factor authentication on your account? If you do, and you have access to one of the trusted devices, you would not have had to use Account Recovery at all, but if you initiated Account Recovery you have no option other than to wait for the response, which apparently should have come yesterday. So be sure to check your email accounts and your junk folders. But if it is late you will just have to wait for it.

You mentioned an ME account, but ME, MAC and iCloud are “alias” accounts, so if your email is xyzzy@me.com a message sent to xyzzy@mac.com or xyzzy@iCloud.com would still get to you.

If your Apple ID is not one of these, then you would receive the unlock message at that email.

You should also be prepared to receive a phone call; be sure you have the setting for Silence Unknown Callers turned off in Settings/Phone, and the phone is not in Do Not Disturb mode so you can get the call if that is the way it is delivered.

I’m going to use fake names here but it will illustrate what I’m saying.

I got the Apple ID EmailA@ME.COM in 2003. A few years ago when I got an iPhone X, I couldn’t remember my password so created a new Apple ID, EmailB@ICLOUD.COM and used it to setup my phone. At some point (it’s been a while so I don’t remember how) I got the password for EmailA@ME.COM changed and added it as an email account on my phone. I have facial recognition turned on so I never have to enter the password. In June I bought a new iPhone 12. I couldn’t remember what the password is for EmailA@ME.COM so I setup my phone with EmailB@ICLOUD.COM.

When go to iforgot.apple.com and go to forgot password it ask me to enter my Apple ID and then shows the last 2 digits of my phone number and I enter it and new screen loads that say a notification has been sent and to click approve. BUT no notification comes through.

I called Apple Support and a very nice Rep forced a notification to come to my phone and the next day I got a email that said in 2 weeks I would get either a text or phone call with instructions on how to change my password. The day came and passed and I never got any notification.

When I go iforgot.Apple.com I am back to where I started. It says it sent a notification but none shows up on my phone.

Both phone are logged using the EmailB@ICLOUD.COM and both are trusted devices.

I’m just not sure how to resolve this. When I worked for IU I could call my Apple Business Rep and he would get things done that Customer Service said couldn’t be done but I am not retired and have no one at Apple to reach out too. :(

Any help would be great appreciated.

Thank both you for you replies. Yes I do have two factor authentication turned on both phones. I just don’t understand why my phone isn’t getting notifications from Apple? I have been trying to do this since the first of June. The only time a notification comes through is if an Apple Support person send it. I don’t understand why I can’t go to an Apple store with my devices (which were purchased new from the store with my credit card) and show them my passport or drivers license and prove I am me and get the password changed. In one hand I applaud the efforts to keep my account secure but then I read that some people can authenticate with ID or credit card. How do I become one of those people?

I cringe at trying to change my email account for everyone I know and everything on the Internet.

By chance do the Apple IDs share the same prefix? Eg. John.smith@me.com and John.smith@icloud.com? If you are able to log into the Apple ID for this forum, and it displays the other Apple ID, you're likely just accessing an alias. In that case, your log in should be identical.

You could try logging into iCloud.com to see if you have access to your me.com email there using the same ID and password you used to log onto this site.

The password is for my @me account. It is the email address I use for everything and have since 2003. It is not the Apple ID I use to log into my phone. My phone has the password to the account saved so I can get and sent email but I bought a new iPhone and the password doesn’t go to the new phone when I do a restore. Apple knows my name. They have my phone number. When I go to iforgot.Apple.com it shows the last 2 number of my phone. I complete the number and it says it sent a notification to my phone but no notification comes through. When I called support at the beginning of August the girl was able to send the notification to my phone and I approved it. The next day I got an email that stated “You will receive a text or a phone call at this number when your account is ready to recover on August 26, 2021 at 6:46:39 PM EDT. “ but I never of any notification or text.

This is extremely frustrating.
